Bert Jansch, Scottish singer-songwriter and guitarist
Bert Jansch was 22 yrs old when he released his first album in 1965. Paul Simon learned "Angie" from Bert and recorded it on the Simon and Garfunkel Album "Sounds of Silence". Jimmy Page copied Bert's "Black Water Side" and recorded it on the Led Zeppellin 1969 album. Neil Young was inspried by Bert's song "Needle of Death" and wrote his own "Needle and the Damage Done" for his 1972 Harvest album. Donovan wrote two songs for Bert, Elton John paid tribute to him at an awards ceremony in 2006 saying how much Bernie Taupin and he had been influenced by Bert's early recordings. Bert Jansch formed the band Pentangle in 1968 - 1973 and we heard songs from "Basket of Light". His final studio album was 2006 "Black Swan", we hear the title track and "High Days". Bert Jansch died from cancer on Oct 5, 2011. Rest in Peace Mr Jansch.
